How to Download Cisco Configuration Professional (CCP)
Learn how to select, authenticate, accept terms, download, and verify Cisco Configuration Professional from Cisco's software download portal.
Cisco Configuration Professional (CCP) is Cisco's graphical application for configuring and managing supported Cisco router features. This lesson explains how to obtain the CCP software from Cisco's official software download portal. It does not cover installing CCP or configuring a router with it.
Before continuing, review the Cisco Configuration Professional overview for context. After obtaining the installer, follow the separate CCP installation procedure.
Prepare Before Downloading
Have the following ready:
- A Cisco.com account. A Cisco.com account is used to sign in to Cisco web services and access software downloads.
- The Cisco-supported router platform or lab environment on which you intend to use CCP.
- Your software and support requirements, including the release appropriate for your platform.
Download availability can depend on your account permissions, product entitlement, and Cisco support status. Entitlement is the authorization associated with an account or support contract that permits access to particular software. Creating an account does not necessarily provide access to every restricted download.
Open the CCP Product Download Area
- Go to Cisco's official software download area.
- Locate the product support or software download section for Configuration Professional.
- Choose Configuration Professional Software as the software category or type.
The software download portal is Cisco's product support area where software categories, versions, release notes, and download files are presented. Portal labels and page layout can change, so use the product name and software category rather than relying on a particular screen position.
Select a CCP Software Version
- Review the available CCP software versions.
- Select the release that matches your intended platform and environment.
- Open the download entry for that version.
- Read the release details and notes before starting the transfer.
Release notes are documents describing a software release, including supported environments, changes, caveats, and requirements. Check the supported platforms, file type, release notes, and any stated prerequisites. If the desired release is unavailable, the account may lack access or the release may no longer be offered.
Sign In or Register with Cisco.com
Cisco may request authentication before showing the file or allowing the download.
Existing Cisco.com account
- Enter the Cisco.com credentials when prompted.
- Complete any additional account or access checks.
- Return to the selected CCP release if the portal redirects you during sign-in.
No Cisco.com account
- Choose the registration option on the Cisco sign-in page.
- Complete the requested registration information.
- Sign in with the newly created account.
- Return to the selected software release and continue through the download steps.
Registration is not the same as entitlement. Some downloads require product ownership, a support contract, administrator approval, or another Cisco access condition.
Review and Accept Download Conditions
Cisco may display a license agreement or other legal conditions before making the file available. A license agreement contains terms that must be accepted before downloading or using the software. The portal may also present export-control notices or other download conditions.
- Read the displayed license, legal, and export-related conditions.
- Accept the applicable terms only when you are authorized to do so.
- Continue to the download control.
Start and Verify the Download
- Activate the download button or link for the selected CCP release.
- Watch for a browser save prompt, download notification, or security confirmation.
- Confirm that the installer appears in the browser's download list.
- Wait for the transfer to finish before attempting installation.
- Confirm that the downloaded file completed successfully and is not marked incomplete or interrupted.
A download may not start automatically because of browser security settings, blocked pop-ups or redirects, a missed confirmation prompt, or a temporary connectivity problem. Check the browser's download list and notifications. If appropriate, allow the download from the Cisco site, then activate the download control again.
CCP Download Workflow
| Step | Cisco portal action | Expected result |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Open the official Cisco software download area. | The product support and software selection area is displayed. |
| 2 | Choose Configuration Professional Software. | Available CCP releases are listed. |
| 3 | Select a suitable version and open its download entry. | Release details and download controls are available. |
| 4 | Sign in or register for a Cisco.com account. | The portal evaluates account access and entitlement. |
| 5 | Review and accept applicable license or export conditions. | The download control becomes available or active. |
| 6 | Start the download and monitor the browser. | The installer transfers to the local computer. |
| 7 | Verify that the transfer completed. | A complete installer is ready for the installation procedure. |
Common Download Access Outcomes
| Situation | Likely cause | Recommended action |
|---|---|---|
| The portal asks for Cisco.com credentials. | The selected download requires authentication. | Sign in with an existing account or use the registration option to create one. |
| The file remains unavailable after sign-in. | The account lacks entitlement, or the release has access restrictions or is no longer available. | Read the access message, confirm support or entitlement requirements with the appropriate Cisco account administrator or support channel, and select an available suitable release when applicable. |
| The license page prevents progress. | Required terms have not been reviewed or accepted. | Review the displayed conditions and select the acceptance option before retrying. |
| Clicking Download does nothing. | Browser download blocking, pop-up or redirect blocking, a missed confirmation, or a temporary connectivity issue. | Check browser notifications and permissions, allow the Cisco download when appropriate, click again, and verify the transfer in the download list. |

- Unavailable release: Review the product page and choose an available release that meets your platform and lab or production requirements.
- Terms page blocks progress: Review and accept the displayed conditions before trying the download again.
- No transfer: Check browser notifications, download permissions, pop-up restrictions, and temporary connectivity. Retry the download control.
- Incomplete file: Do not proceed to installation until the browser reports a completed download. Retry the transfer if necessary.
