Privacy policy
This policy describes how Geek University (geek-university.com) collects, uses, and shares information. The site is operated by Adam. Questions: support@geek-university.com or the contact form. Last updated 4 September 2026.
Who this applies to
Course pages do not require an account. You can read lessons without giving a name or email. If you subscribe, send a contact message, or allow cookies, the practices below apply.
This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Information you give us
Mailing list. The footer form stores the email address you submit so we can send new lessons and lab notes. You can ask to be removed by writing to support@geek-university.com.
Contact form. We store your name (if you provide one), email, and message so we can reply. We also try to email that message to the site mailbox.
We use that information only to run the site, answer you, and send mail you asked for. We do not sell it.
Browser tools
The tools on /tools/ — JSON and CSV utilities, advertising audience hashers, UTM and URL helpers, SPF/DMARC/DKIM, encode/hash/UUID/regex/line tools, the JWT decoder, SEO tag generators, CSS helpers, CIDR/chmod/cron/nginx/Apache snippets, timestamp and byte converters, SQL helpers, Gravatar and Mailchimp MD5, and pixel event JSON — run in your browser. Paste, files, and generated keys are not posted to our servers. The JWT decoder only displays header and payload; it does not verify signatures. SQL helpers do not connect to a database.
Logs and hosting
The web server may record IP address, user agent, date, and the path you requested — the usual baseline for operating and securing a site. We use that to diagnose errors and abuse, not to build marketing profiles.
Cookies, analytics, and advertising
We use cookies and similar technologies for:
- Essential: remembering your cookie choice so the banner does not return on every page.
- Analytics: Google Analytics (GA4) on every page load, to see which pages are used. That may set cookies and collect device, usage, and approximate location data under Google’s privacy policy.
- Advertising: Google AdSense, which shows ads and may use cookies, web beacons, and identifiers (including IP address) to serve and measure ads, including personalized ads where allowed.
Third parties, including Google, may be placing and reading cookies on your browser, or using web beacons or IP addresses to collect information as a result of ads served on this site. Google’s use of data when you visit partner sites is explained here: How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
The Analytics tag and AdSense load on every visit. Reserved ads on lesson and course pages run whether you choose Accept or Essential only. You can still limit personalized ads in your Google ad settings and browser cookie controls.
Ads.txt at /ads.txt lists the advertising system authorized to sell ads on this domain.
How long we keep data
Contact messages and mailing-list addresses stay until we no longer need them to reply or send the mail you requested, or until you ask us to delete them. Server logs are rotated as part of ordinary hosting. Cookie-choice storage stays in your browser until you clear it or change the setting.
Your choices
Email us to correct or delete a contact message or mailing-list signup we hold. Cookie settings hide the banner; they do not turn ads off. Blocking cookies in your browser may still limit ads and measurement.
Changes
If this policy changes in a material way, we will update this page and the date above. Continued use of the site after an update means the new policy applies to later visits.
