Purchase Confirmation

Understand your purchase confirmation, order summary, payment status, fulfillment, receipt, next steps, and what to do about missing access or duplicate charges.

What a purchase confirmation means

A purchase confirmation is the post-checkout acknowledgement that an order or payment was accepted. A successful confirmation should clearly state that the purchase is complete and provide the details needed to access the product, keep a receipt, or contact support.

Look for a prominent success message such as Purchase complete or Order confirmed. Also record the order number, which is the unique identifier used to locate and support a specific purchase. A payment provider may also show a transaction ID, a reference associated with a payment attempt.

Review the purchase summary

The confirmation page should provide an easy-to-review record of what you bought and what you paid. For a digital course, this may show the course name and enrollment. For a physical item, it may show the product, quantity, shipping charges, and delivery details.

Item or enrollmentQuantityPriceDiscountTax or feesTotal paid
Example: Web Development Course1$120.00-$20.00$10.00$110.00

Check that the summary includes, where applicable:

  • The product, service, enrollment, ticket, or downloadable item.
  • Quantity and unit price.
  • Discounts, promotional credits, taxes, shipping, and other fees.
  • The final amount paid and the billing currency, such as USD or EUR.
  • The payment method in a privacy-conscious form, such as Visa ending in 1234 or PayPal.

Never expect a confirmation screen to display a full card number, security code, password, or other sensitive payment credential. If payment details are shown, they should be masked.

Understand the payment status

Payment authorization is an approval from a card issuer or payment provider that may occur before the payment is finally settled. A temporary authorization is not always the same as a completed charge.

StatusMeaningCustomer actionWhen to contact support
CompletedThe order was accepted and payment completion was recorded.Use the access or delivery instructions, and save the order number and receipt.Contact support if access, delivery, or order details are incorrect.
PendingPayment processing has not yet been confirmed. An authorization may appear while the provider reviews or settles the payment.Wait for the stated processing period. Do not submit the same order again.Contact support if the status does not update within the stated timeframe or if a payment appears without an order.
FailedThe payment or order submission did not complete successfully.Review the failure message and use the available payment-retry process only after confirming that no completed order exists.Contact support if money was removed, the failure is unclear, or repeated attempts produce unexpected charges. See transaction failure guidance.
CancelledThe order was stopped before completion or was cancelled afterward.Check whether a payment authorization will be released and review any cancellation message.Contact support if the cancellation was unexpected or a settled charge remains.
RefundedFunds for a completed order were returned or scheduled to be returned.Check the refund method and expected timeframe shown by the seller or payment provider.Contact support if the refund has not appeared after the stated timeframe.

Fulfillment and access

Fulfillment is the process of delivering a purchased product, service, or access entitlement. The confirmation should explain what happens next and when to expect it.

Digital courses and account-based products

For a completed course purchase, access may be available immediately through the account used at checkout, or it may require a short activation or enrollment period. Select the start-learning action if one is provided, or open the account dashboard and look for the purchased course.

If access is missing, sign in with the same account or email address used during checkout. Then check whether enrollment processing is still within the stated activation window. You can also review the purchase in purchase history.

Downloads, tickets, services, and shipped items

  • Downloads: Use the download button or the delivery link in the account or confirmation email. Check whether the link expires.
  • Tickets: Look for a ticket file, barcode, or event instructions in the account and confirmation email.
  • Services: Follow the scheduling, onboarding, or account instructions and note any stated preparation period.
  • Shipped items: Review the shipping address, dispatch timeframe, tracking information, and estimated delivery date.

If the order is complete but the promised access or delivery window has passed, contact support with the order number.

Receipt and confirmation email

A receipt is a record of payment and order details supplied to you. A confirmation email or receipt should normally be sent to the email address entered or selected during checkout. When appropriate, the confirmation page may show a partially masked address, such as j***@example.com, rather than exposing the full address.

If the message does not arrive:

  1. Check the spam, junk, promotions, and other filtered folders.
  2. Search your mailbox for the seller name, order number, or words such as receipt and confirmation.
  3. Confirm that the email address on the account is accurate.
  4. Check any alternate email address that may have been used during checkout.
  5. Review purchase history for the order and its receipt options.
  6. Ask support to resend the message if that service is available.

Recommended next actions

After a successful purchase:

  1. Record or copy the order number and, when shown, the transaction ID.
  2. Verify the item, total, currency, and masked payment method.
  3. Select the action that matches your purchase, such as Start learning, View account, Download, or Track delivery.
  4. Save the confirmation page as a PDF, take a private screenshot, or use the browser's print function. Avoid sharing screenshots that expose personal or payment information.
  5. Keep the confirmation email for future support, refund, or delivery questions.

If the page already confirms success, do not return to checkout and submit the order again. Repeating checkout can create a duplicate order or charge.

To review other checkout options, return to checkout only when you intend to begin a new purchase.

When to contact support

Use the seller's support channel, account help area, or contact method shown on the confirmation and receipt. Include the order number whenever possible. For a missing-access or delivery question, also include the purchase date, item name, and the account email address without sending unnecessary sensitive information.

Support can help with:

  • Missing course, account, download, ticket, or service access.
  • Incorrect item, quantity, name, address, or other order details.
  • Pending payments that do not update within the expected timeframe.
  • Receipts or confirmation messages that cannot be located.
  • Fulfillment or delivery delays.
  • Refund, cancellation, or payment-status questions.

Unexpected or duplicate charges

A duplicate charge means more than one charge is associated with an intended single purchase. First compare the charge dates, amounts, currencies, and payment statuses. One entry may be a temporary authorization while another is the settled payment; however, only the payment provider or seller can confirm the final state.

Do not provide a full card number, security code, password, or other payment credentials through an unsecured contact channel. Instead, give support the order number and the dates and amounts of the charges. If support confirms that a charge is unauthorized, follow the provider's secure dispute or escalation process.

Troubleshooting common confirmation problems

The purchased course or digital product is unavailable

  1. Confirm that the order status says Completed, not pending or failed.
  2. Sign out and back in with the account or email used at checkout.
  3. Open the account dashboard or purchase history.
  4. Check whether the stated activation or enrollment period is still in progress.
  5. If access remains unavailable after that period, contact support with the order number.

The confirmation page was closed before the order number was saved

  1. Check the confirmation email, including spam and junk folders.
  2. Review the account's order history.
  3. Check whether the payment is pending, authorized, or settled.
  4. Ask support to resend the receipt or locate the order using non-sensitive purchase details.

A payment appears but no confirmation was received

  1. Determine whether the payment is pending, an authorization, or a settled charge.
  2. Check for an interrupted checkout session or an incorrect email address.
  3. Do not immediately repurchase.
  4. Wait for the stated processing period and contact support if the order does not appear or the charge remains unexplained.
